05.11.2012

Dr Attracta Halpin Registrar NUI Presenting Graduate Wilim Abrook with his parchmentThe National College of Art and Design held its annual conferring ceremony on 5 November in O’Reilly Hall, UCD. NCAD has been part of National University of Ireland since 2000, firstly as a recognised college of NUI and more recently in an academic alliance with UCD. At the ceremony, almost 400 students were conferred with Bachelor, Masters and Doctoral degrees and Postgraduate Diplomas of the National University of Ireland by the Registrar, Dr Attracta Halpin, on behalf of the Chancellor.

During her address, Dr Halpin drew attention to the importance of the connection between the University and NCAD, as the national centre for art and design education. She remarked that during a time when structural change for higher education is in the air, it is important to emphasise that the appropriate place for NCAD is within the university sector where clear markers for art and design disciplines can be established in our higher education system and in our society.
