As a memorial to its former Chancellor, NUI has established the Dr Garret FitzGerald Lectures which are an annual lecture series by distinguished speakers on topics of national or international importance.The third lecture in the series, European Integration and the Taming of Nationalism by Dr Peter Sutherland, European Commissioner 1985-1988, was held on Friday 31 Janurary 2014. in the Aula Maxima, Quadrangle Building, National University of Ireland, Galway.
