Helena Ní Rócháin

Is as Baile Móir i nGaeltacht Chorca Dhuibhne do Helena Ní Rócháin.

I láthair na huaire, tá sí ag obair mar Chúntóir Taighde leis an bhForas Taighde ar Oideachas.
Obair a bhaineann leis an meastóireacht ilbhliantúil ar an Scéim Oideachais Scoileanna Gaeltachta atá idir lámha aici. Lena chois sin, is ball í den Choiste Comhairleach um Polasaí Oideachas Gaeltachta. Tá sealanna caite aici ag teagasc na Gaeilge chomh maith. Múineann sí ranganna do Thobar Dhuibhne faoi láthair agus í ag tabhairt faoi an Teastas i Múineadh na Gaeilge d’Fhoghlaimeoirí Fásta atá á sholáthar ag Ollscoil Mhá Nuad.

Helena Ní Rócháin is from Baile Móir in the Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Irish and History from the University of Limerick, achieving first-class honours in 2020. She chose to undertake the MA in Modern Irish in University College Dublin because of her interest in literature. As part of her masters, she wrote a minor thesis titled ‘Léiriú na mBan I Litríocht na Nua-Ghaeilge’, which focused on the depiction of female characters within the works of three writers of the Irish-language literary canon – Pádraig Ua Maoileoin, Pádraig Standún and Mícheál Ó Conghaile. She used a theoretical approach grounded in sociology and gender studies to examine the insights that emerged from the texts.

At present, she is employed as a Research Assistant in the Educational Research Centre. Her work mainly focuses on the multi-year evaluation of the Gaeltacht Schools Education Scheme. She has also spent some time teaching Irish, and is currently teaching classes on behalf of Tobar Dhuibhne as she undertakes a Certificate in Teaching Irish to Adults provided by Maynooth University.
